KIRTIPUR, August 9: Nepal Democratic Professors’ Association and Nepal National Professors’ Organization on Tuesday indefinitely padlocked the central office of Tribhuvan University to protest “unilateral” appointments of Vice-Chancellors (VCs) in universities by the government on Monday.

Both the professors’ unions say the vice-chancellors were appointed in violation of the trend of consensus and collaboration.[break]

“The appointment at a time when Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has already announced his resignation forced us to padlock the university,” said Treasurer of Nepal Democratic Professors’ Association Jagat Timilsena.

Both the unions have jointly padlocked Pokhara University, Purbanchal University and Nepal Sanskrit University.
