Top four players in women´s section, Nabita Shrestha, Shwechchha Nembang, Alina Maharjan and Renuka Khatri, emerged victorious in all the four matches they played.
Tenth seeded Kajol Rauniyar was a surprise package who also won her four matches. [break]
Similarly, top ranked three players, national champion Shiva Sunder Gothe, Ajay Suwal and Rajendra Kapali also won all four boards played Monday. Gothe, in his bid to get back his form after recovering from injury, need not struggle for the victory.
Under women´s section, Shrestha of Nepal Police Club (NPC) faced a tough challenge from 20th ranked Norden Tamang. Shrestha won the match 11-4, 11-2, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7. In other matches, Shrestha defeated Manita Chitrakar, Erika Maharjan and Goma Gautam respectively.
Nembang of NPC got tough fight from Sanisa Shreshta in the last match of the day. Nembang managed to beat Shrestha 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10. Earlier, Nembang eased past Manita Chitrakar, Goma Gautam and Sabina Makhasya.
Kajol Rauniyar beat seventh seeded Rabina Deshar who is three places ahead of her, in the longest match of the day. In the course of achieving the hard fought victory, she won the second, third and last set. Rauniyar slumped 12-14 in the first set but took charge of the second and third set 11-9, 17-15 respectively. But she lost the fourth 7-9 for the fate of the winners to be decided only in last set which she won 14-12.
In men´s section, top seeded Gothe beat Bivek Gautam, Ganesh Tamang and Biyus Awal respectively.
Ajay Suwal downed Ganesh Tamang, Binesh Khania, Pradip Rokka and Sonu Gupta respectively. Rajendra Kapali eased past Piyush Agrawal, Rakesh Maharjan, Sunil Maharjan and Bivek Karki.
In upsetting results of the day, Sonu Gupta stunned fourth seeded Chandan Shahi 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 2-11, 11-5 and Pradip Rokka eased past sixth ranked Purushottam Bajracharya 13-11, 11-6, 11-8 respectively.
Last four matches of the day were postponed due to bad light.
