Security at the airport premises was tightened by Nepal Police, cutting down the flow through the main entrance and applying scrutiny measures used when a high level of threat is adjudged.
VIP passes for entering the terminal building were denied while body and baggage checking for departing passengers was intensified, halting them along an unusually long queue. Plain-clothes officials were deployed in large number to keep vigil on activities inside and outside the terminal building.
"We always keep the airport security on high alert. But on January 26, we give it additional attention," said an official.
