Former District Education Officer (DEO) of Dhanusha Dr Yogendra Thakur, was arrested from Sanothimi of Bhaktapur by CIB team after tracing his call details, said Krishna Kumar Mahat, Deputy Superintendent of the Police (DSP.[break]
“Thakur had been on run after Supreme Court (SC) found him guilty of corruption on September 15, 2009 and sentenced him to four years in prison and fined him Rs 3.82 million.”
According to the police, he had been hiding in different parts of the country following the SC verdict.
Thakur, a resident of Balkhu of Kathmandu, is originally from Lahan of Siraha District.
He siphoned off money from government subsidy, salary and allowances of teachers of lower secondary and secondary schools while he was DEO in Dhanusha, according to the police.
Thakur had embezzled Rs 3.82 million for his personal benefit and invested the money in his private institute - Janakpur Technical Institute.
Police had been trying to find Thakur since the last three years, and finally caught up with him following a tip off which enabled them to pin point his location with call records.
Thakur is also Siraha district chairman of Loktantrik Janata Party that was registered in 2008, just ahead of Constituent Assembly election.
