TAPLEJUNG, Nov 18: Conservationists are worried as three red pandas have been found dead at separate places in Taplejung in the past one month.

Two red pandas were found dead at Lose of Sumdo Hanspokhari Community Forest in Lelep-8, less than three weeks after an adult member of the endangered species was found dead in Fumbu Village Development Committee (VDC) at an altitude of around 2,400 meters in Pathibhara region. [break]

The cause of their deaths has not been revealed yet.

Conservationist Ramesh Rai expressed concerns that such frequent deaths would undo the conservation efforts of the species and urged the experts to study about the status of red panda.

Himalayan Conservation Forum (HCF) has been doing a study about the rare species in co-ordination with Red Panda Network and is preparing red panda trail.

The two red pandas were found in the course of making the trail. The HCF had also found a dead red panda in block number four of the community forest in Fururmbu VDC last year.
