After the meeting held at a hotel in Gaushala, the leaders said that the parties would agree on a package deal soon to end the political and constitutional complexities.
However, the leaders of ruling and opposition parties remained firm on their respective claim over the post of prime minister of the to-be-formed national unity government, it is learnt.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said the leaders held meaningful and serious talks for the first time since the dissolution of the constituent assembly (CA), with concerns expressed over nationality. He said that the leaders have agreed to a package deal to resolve the impasse.
Similarly, UML Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam said discussions were held on whether the formation of the consensus government should be held first or the clearance of constitutional and legal hindrances.
"In the discussion, we proposed for the exit of the Bhattarai-led government in a dignified manner. Maoists have requested for a day or two to hold necessary discussions," Gautam said.
The top leaders are also scheduled to meet at 3:00 pm on Tuesday as all were of the same opinion that there was no option to a consensus, UCPN (Maoist) leader Amik Sherchan said.
