KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Three laborers died and two other injured when the boundary wall of residence of former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai fell over on Sunday afternoon.

Sandeep Dhalal, Bhalu Lama and Kanchha Tamang died while Subash Cholal and Bir Bahadur Dhalal were injured.[break]

The laborers were repairing the government-built housing that caved in due to poor construction.

The government had built the one-story structure for Bhattarai at Badegaun of Lalitpur, some 15 km from Kathmandu, two years ago.

Last August, the front yard of the main building caved in following continuous rain and the compound wall collapsed.

Bhattarai, the octogenarian Nepali Congress leader, is in a hospital in Kathmandu following health problems.

A report prepared by a probe panel in August had found senior officials at the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DoUDBC), guilty of poor construction.
