Threat of authoritarianism growing: Khanal

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal, has said that the country was facing growing threat of authoritarianism.



Speaking at a function organized by the Pushpalal Memorial Foundation to mark the 13th day of mourning of the late leader Gauribhakta Pradhan in the capital on Sunday, Chairman Khanal accused the UCPN-Maoist of imposing authoritarianism by frustrating the consensus efforts of the parties. The UML was therefore preparing a vigorous struggle against his, he warned.[break]



It was worrying that though the UCPN-Maoist was a communist party, it was acting against proletariat by orienting country towards authoritarianism.



Senior leader and Foundation Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal reminded that the late leader Pradhan was an ideologically strong and honest person. The future generation has a lot to learn from his life.



The programme was addressed by CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainali, NC leader Deep Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman of the Rastriya Janamorcha Chitra Bahadur KC and others.
