SINDUPALCHOWK, Jan 19: Tatopani Customs Office has collected Rs 1.5 billion in revenue over the first six months of the current fiscal year. The collection is 24 percent higher than what the office mobilized in the same period last year.

The collection is 56 percent of its annual target. The customs office has aimed to collect a total of Rs 2.5 billion revenue during the fiscal year 2010/11.[break]

According to Nirmal Hari Adhikari, chief of Tatopani Customs Office, collection for the first six months of 2010/11 was some Rs 140 million more than the target set for the period.

The office had collected a total of Rs 1.21 billion in revenue during the same period of last fiscal year.

According to customs officials and traders, though there was delay in the formation of government, a larger volume of revenue has been collected due to flourishing imports along the customs point.

Imports through Tatopani customs had gone down by 70 percent over the past two years due to factors like insecurity, compulsory donation and exorbitant transportation, fare among others.

Adhikari also attributed growing import, control in theft and directives of the government for rise in revenue collection.
