Nepal Government and the Swiss Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Finance Ministry to this effect on Monday. The document was signed under the second-phase of the Local Infrastructure for Livelihood Improvement (LILI) project.
Joint-secretary at the ministry Lalmani Joshi and chief of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Elizabeth Von Kapler singed the document on the behalf of Nepal and Switzerland, respectively.
Under the program, around 2,300 hectares of land in rural parts of eight districts- Dailekh, Achham, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga and Khotang- will be provided with irrigation facility, said Joshi. The program will be implemented through the Local Development Ministry and will end in July 2013, he informed.
Kapler informed that nearly 70,000 households had directly been benefited during the first-phase program that had begun in 2006 and concluded in 2009. The Swiss Government has been providing assistance in different sectors of Nepal including education, health and irrigation, said the SDC chief.
