Sun Gold Brewery workers warn of strike

CHITWAN, Aug 21: Workers at Sun Gold Brewery that have been demanding for rise in salary and perks on Tuesday warned that they would bringing productions to a grinding halt from the next week if the management did not fulfill their demands.



Unveiling a strike program on the day, workers affiliated with Nepal Factory Workers´ Association (NFWA), Sun Gold Brewery Unit, said they were carrying out various protest activities without obstructing operations till Saturday. [break]



“But if the management still paid no heed to our call, we will bring productions to a grinding halt from Sunday,” said Gangadhar Subedi, treasurer of NFWA, Sun Gold Brewery Unit.



Sun Gold Brewery is the subsidiary of Chaudhary Group.



The agitating workers said they have already begun their protest by working with black band tied around their arms from Sunday. “Under this form of protest, we are chanting slogans to fulfill our demand for an hour ever day. We will continue it till Wednesday,” said Subedi



According to the workers, they will chang slogans for two hours on Thursday and Friday. "If that too failed to draw management´s attention, we are shutting down the production from August 26,” said Subedi.



Sun Gold Brewery, which was registered in 1993, started productions from 1995 only. Currently, it has been producing 5,000 cases (each containing 12 bottles) of Sun Gold beer every day. It presently employs 116 workers.
