All academic and administrative work in the PU has been halted following the protests of the local political parties demanding transparent managerial system in the institution. The closure has hampered 25,000 students enrolled at the university and its affiliated colleges across the country.
Issuing a joint press release on Sunday, the leaders of the unions -- Ranjit Karna of NSU, Madhav Dhungel of ANNFSU and Himal Sharma of the ANNISU-R -- urged the government to create favorable environment to perform academic activities peacefully in the university. [break]
"Though the local political party´s intention to expose the irregularities and corruption in the university is good, the students should not be made to suffer by padlocking the institutions for a long time," read the joint statement.
The student leaders have also criticized the PU officials for paying no attention toward the issue even as the examination, result and academic calendar of the PU has been disrupted. “Unlock the university first and then take initiative for a long term solution through dialogue between students unions, government and local leaders,” the statement read.
