TULSIPUR (Dang) June 7: The indefinite Terai banda enforced by the Freed Kamlari Struggle Committee has affected normal life in Dang district. The banda or general strike was continuing on fourth day on Thursday.

The struggle committee has called for a general strike in 22 districts of the west Terai, demanding that identity cards be issued to them, treatment be provided to those who were injured in course of picketing the Singh Durbar on June 2 and action be taken against the perpetrators.

Schools, colleges, markets and transport have been totally halted in the area as part of the general strike.

The committee has warned to continue the banda until and unless their demands are addressed.

Meanwhile, life in Kailali district has returned to normal after the Freed Kamlari Struggle Committee withdrew the indefinite Terai banda from today.

Schools, colleges and markets have opened and transport has come into regular operation after the committee took back its banda programme.

Though the talks with the government have not reached to a conclusion, the banda has been lifted considering the difficulty faced by the people, said Prabhat Kumar Chaudhari of the Tharu Welfare Council.

The struggle committee has enforced the banda demanding an impartial investigation into the mysterious death of Shrijana Chaudhari, a Kamlari, in Lalitpur last month.

The banda is still on in some Terai districts.
