More than 300 commuters, most of who were laborers returning home from India for Holi and sick persons, undertook a silent rally from the bus park to the administration office where they started a sit-in demanding either money for expenditure or arrangement to reach their respective homes. The laborers claim they have spent almost all of their hard-earned money, and some were even forced to sell their watches and jewelry.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke Ganesh Bahadur Khatri said since providing money to the commuters was not viable, he was in talks with security agencies to explore other options. He is coordinating with other districts to open public transport routes to Surkhet , as well as east and west of Nepalgunj, and hoped an arrangement will be in place by the evening.
Similarly, hundreds are stuck in the Kohalpur section of the East-West Highway after vehicles which left from Kanchanpur and Kailali during a 15-hour easing of the strike were stopped this morning.
