Speaking to the media in his home district, Baglung, Sharma said, “We are very close to consensus even on all the four disputed issues of constitution writing,’’ adding “The constitution draft is already ready.”
Saying that the parties had a series of intensive discussion on the four issues—state restructuring, forms of governance, electoral system and judiciary, Sharma expressed his confidence that the new constitution will be drafted and promulgated in time.
The Maoist leader also described the statement a couple days by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav that he would not endorse any new constitution that poses threat to national integrity, as a ‘positive’ remark.
Asked if the remark meant the president’s intention of intervention, Sharma said, “A constitution, spawning (territorial) disintegration, is unacceptable not only to the president but to us as well. It is common that the president, in his capacity as state head, said that.”
