Locals of Baise Bichwa have demanded that the government immediately remove the SSB post from the place.[break]
In a recent meeting held with Indian security officials, according to District Administration Office (DAO) of Kanchanpur, Nepali officials had raised the issue of the SSB post -- which is, locals assert, being built against the 1950 friendship treaty between the two countries.
According an official at the DAO, the Indian officials assured them of taking action after a joint observation of the site. Sources say India is building the post purportedly to protect the wildlife of Dudhawa National Park (DNP).
Previously, India had started digging a trench near Doke bazaar of Kanchanpur, irking local people in the Nepali village. The site of the new SSB post is near the trench. Locals fear India´s trench could cause flooding on the Nepali side during rainy season.
