Forward routed Nava Jeevan 67-32 and Prithvi beat Bagmati School 37-18. In the junior boys´ category, Odyssey, Prithvi, Angel´s Heart and Health Care won their respective matches. Odyssey beat Golden Peak 19-8, Prithvi defeated Greenland B 12-6.
Sports Festival postponed
KATHMANDU: The organizers of Sports Festival, Lalitpur District Sports Development Committee, postponed the date of the festival issuing a press release on Tuesday. The festival was scheduled for November 10-13 and now it will be held from November 22-25. Secretary of the district sports development committee, Sujan Khatiwada, said that the selection of players for the Sixth National Games will be done from the festival. Altogether five games, volleyball (male/female), athletics, karate, taekwondo and ITF, are included in the festival.
Women´s Regional Cricket kicks offWednesday
KATHMANDU: Greenland Children Academy will make Wai Wai Women´s Regional Cricket selections from November 9-13 at Sainik Ground Bhaktapur. Altogether six teams will participate in the tournament. The tournament will be played in T20 format having league-cum-knockout rounds. Cricket Association of Nepal will provide technical support for the tournament while Chaudhary group is the main sponsor.
The players for Region No 3 will be selected from this tournament. The organizers informed that they were not able to conduct the tournament for the past two years due to technical problems. Baluwatar Cricket Academy is the defending champion while the host finished second in the last edition of the tournament.
Construction of covered hall halted
UDAYAPUR: The construction of a covered hall in Diktel, which began a year ago under the initiative of the district´s then police incharge DSP Tek Bahadur Tamang, has come to a halt after the officer was transferred. Members of the local construction committee have been unable to collect funds. Kumar Acharya, president of the construction committee, said only 25 percent of the construction has been completed with the available amount.
“We have been able to construct only the foundation and install the pillars but the remaining works have come to a halt due to lack of funds,” said Acharya. The total cost of the covered hall building is estimated to be Rs 10,160,000.
Olympic Qualifying for Taekwondo
KATHMANDU: The Asian Qualifying tournament of taekwondo for the London Olympics game has been rescheduled. According to Nepal Taekwondo Association, the qualifying tournament will be held in Thailand from November 26 to 28. Earlier, World Taekwondo Federation had postponed the tounament scheduled for November 4 to 6 as host Thailand was grappling with the worst floods ever to hit the country.
The 10th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Manita Shahi (women´s-67kg), the 11th SAG gold medalist Ayasha Shakya (women´s-56kg) as well as Ashis Maharjan (men´s-60kg) and Rohit Tamang (men´s-58 kg) are preparing for the tournament.
DYC Kotimai wins
BUTWAL: DYC Kotimai registered a win against Chadani Youth Club Danapur and qualified for the next round in the ongoing First Madan Bhandari Gold Cup Football Tournament on Tuesday in Butwal. DYC beat Chadani 4-2 a in tie breaker. In the regular time, both the teams had scored two goals each so the match was extended to extra time. Suman Khadka had given lead to DYC in first half and in second half Shyam Nepali doubled the lead. Chadani leveled the game with two spot kicks from Tanka Lama and Raju Mandal. DYC will meet Gorkha Boys in the next round. Jharana Sports club faces Butwal United Club on Wednesday.
