Valley Public, Nava Jeevan off to winning start
KATHMANDU: Valley Public School and Nava Jeevan School started the sixth Kwiks Greenland Basketball Tournament with wins on Monday. In the matches played at the court of Greenland School, Valley Public thrashed Himalayan Health Care Academy 51-36 as Prakash Sigdel and Nima Sherpa scored equal 16 points in the senior boys´ category.
In another match, Nava Jeevan beat Deep Jyoti 32-18. Golden Peak registered a narrow margin win over the host Greenland with a score of 44-40. Rakesh Shrestha scored valuable 19 points for the winning team. In the junior boys´ category, Golden Peak, AIA and Sky Lark won their respective matches. Golden Peak beat Arunodaya 12-6, AIA routed the host 33-15 and Sky Lark overcame Prithvi School 39-13.
ANFA officials to participate in AFC seminar
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Monday selected three members of the association to participate in the AFC Elite Education Seminar 2012 and Match Commissioner Seminar to be held in Malaysia from January 10-12. Indra Man Tuladhar, Sanjeev Mishra and Gokul Thapa will be participating in the seminar.
Butwal Elite defeats Sikkim
KATHMANDU: Butwal Elite English School defeated Sikkim 2-1 in the ongoing U-14 52nd Subrato Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament in New Delhi on Monday. The tournament is being organized by Indian Air Force. Butwal Elite School is the only team representing Nepal in the tournament. Suraj Hamal and Shiva Subedi scored a goal each for the Nepali side. The Nepali team will take on Jharkhand on November 9 and Gujarat on November 10.
T20 cricket in Bara
BARA: Martyr Asraf Majid Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament is all set to kick off in Bara from November 14, according to the organizer Kalaiya Cricket Club. The club informed that all the matches will be played under artificial light.
Altogether 24 teams from India and Nepal will participate in the 15-day tournament. The winner will bag a purse of Rs 30,000 while runner-up will receive Rs 15,000.
Pakistan wins SAARC Twenty20
KATHMANDU: Pakistan has lifted the first edition of the SAARC U-25 Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Monday defeating Sri Lanka by eight runs in Maldives. Winning the toss Pakistan opted to bat first and scored 201 runs losing all the wickets. Chasing the total, Sri Lanka managed to score only 193 runs losing eight wickets.
Asian U-14 tennis begins Tuesday
KATHMANDU: Asian U-14 Series Tennis Championship is all set to kick off in Lucknow, India from Tuesday. Nepali U-14 players Ivanhoe Lissanevitch and Pranav Kayastha have qualified for the main draw in the boys´ category. In the girls´ section, Bibhuti Karki, Bijisha Shrestha, Mayanka Rana and Mahika Rana have made it to the main draw. All of the six players will compete on Tuesday.
