SPORTS BRIEFS: Spark Health advance into final

KATHMANDU, June 6: Spark Health Home Football Club advanced into the final of PUFA Invitational Cup Football Tournament on Thursday after goalkeeper Ranjit Shrestha saved two spotkicks during tiebreaker.



Spark defeated Sujal Café Football Club of Tripureshwar 4-2 in tiebreaker to set up title clash with Banepa Boys Club. The final will be played on Saturday. [break]



The match went to tiebreaker following a goalless draw during the regulation and added time. Both teams had come up with big names of Nepali football. Spark Health was studded with players like Bhola Silwal, Suman Subedi, Dinesh Karki and others. Tanka Basnet, Jeetendra Karki and Surendra Shrestha feature from Sujal Cafe.



The man-of-the-match declared goalie Shrestha denied Tanka Basnet and Ramesh Dangal´s spotkick. Raju Nagarkoti and Bikram Maharjan only converted for Sujal Café. Dinesh Karki, Krishna Lama, Suman Subedi and Raj Paudel succeeded in converting for Spark.


KU A, Guheshwari fix final date


KATHMANDU: Kathmandu University (KU) A and host team Guheshwari Academy fixed the final meeting in the Guheshwari Cup Girl´s Football Tournament underway in the capital. KU A defeated KU B 1-0 in the first semifinal with lone goal coming from Rajshri Pandey. In another semifinal, Guheshwari registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Amar English Boarding School. Pramila Tamang, Samana Maharjan and Amrita Rai scored for the host team. The final will be held on Saturday.


Opal, Spangle win matches


KATHMANDU: Opal School and Spangle Boarding High School on Wednesday registered wins in the Second Brooklyn Inter-school Boys´ Basketball Tournament. Opal registered a 55-24 win over Deep Jyoti with 21 points from Tshering Jangbu Sherpa. Similarly, Ritesh Shrestha´s nine points guided Spangle to a 23-11 victory over Ambassador Academy. Wilson Academy, Golden Peak, Teresa Academy, New English and North Point also won their respective matches. Wilson thrashed Pushpa Lal Memorial School 82-7, Golden Peak routed National Ideal 86-8, Teresa registered a 52-20 win over Joseph School, New English beat Saint George 9-6 and North Point registered a 37-1 win over Prashanti.



Gauri Shankar beats Pawan Prakriti


KATHMANDU: Gauri Shankar and Bal Shiksha Sadan on Wednesday won their respective matches in the First HVSA 3X3 Basketball Tournament in the junior boys´ category. Gauri Shankar registered a 20-4 win over Pawan Prakriti while Bal Diksha defeated host Hope Valley 23-4. In the senior boys´ section, Pawan Prakriti beat High Dew 18-4 while High Dew defeated Children Garden 14-8. In senior girls´ matches, the A team of host Hope Valley edged past Gauri Shankar A 7-6 and Future Star thrashed Namuna 8-0.



BST Cup semifinal line-up complete


KATHMANDU: Valley Public, Angel´s Heart, HVSA and Bagmati on Wednesday advanced into the semifinals of the First BST Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the girls´ section. Valley Public beat host BST 24-16, Angel´s Heart overcame Kathmandu Valley 34-20, HVSA beat Siddhartha Vanasthali 20-17 and Bagmati thumped Kantipur Academy 26-10. In the boys´ section, Valley Public edged past Forward Academy 29-26, Kathmandu Valley beat Green Land 27-25, Golden Peak overcame TIA 35-32 and Innovative saw off Nawa Jeevan 32-20.
