SPORTS BRIEFS: Roll ball team off to India

KATHMANDU, April 13: Nepali Roll Ball team, comprising 12 member squad and four officials, left for Pune, India on Wednesday to participate in the first Roll Ball Championship.



Altogether 20 nations will participate in the championship starting from April 16-23. The roll ball game has a short history in Nepal.[break]



Police into final


KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club secured the final spot in the second Laxmi Narayan Memorial Cup National Open Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday. Nepal Police beat Armed Police Force in three straight sets 25-11, 25-17, 25-13 in the match played at Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre.



Judo C´ship on Saturday


KATHMANDU: CONCIN Nepal is set to organize CONCIN Cup First Inter-children´s Home Judo Championship on Saturday under the technical support of Mount Everest Judo and Martial Arts Research Centre. The championship is aimed at boosting the self confidence of the children affected by the people´s war, orphans and children living in shelter, states a press release issued by Confederation of NGOs for Child Integration in Nepal (CONCIN).



 “We don´t want the children living in our shelter to be deprived of sports. We want to give a message to the helpless children that sports is not just for the ones who can afford for it,” said Purna Bahadur Khatri, secretary of CONCIN Nepal and added, “We chose judo because it is a disciplined game.” Altogether 101 children - 65 boys and 36 girls - will be competing in the championship in 20 weight categories.



Baluwatar win district selection


KATHMANDU: Baluwatar Cricket Club won the Kathmandu District Senior T20 Selection Cricket Tournament on Wednesday. Baluwatar defeated New Vision Club by 16 runs in the final held at the TU grounds, Kirtipur. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Baluwatar garnered 92/8 in the match that was reduced to 15 overs due to downpour. Rupesh Srivastav (26) and Ayush Sharma (22) contributed for Baluwatar´s total. Ram Chaudhary of New Vision hauled three wickets. New Vision could manage only 76 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted overs. Sumit Dhoj Chand hit 23 runs for New Vision. Sharma of Baluwatar was declared man-of-the-match. Earlier, Baluwatar and New Vision clash was set during the league but the match had to be abandoned due to rain. Meanwhile, regional selection for Senior Pepsi Cricket Tournament of Region No 3 Kathmandu will begin from Thursday.
