SPORTS BRIEFS: Raut wins gold

KATHMANDU, June 15: Eva Raut of Bijeshwari School won gold in the U-12 girls´ singles during the Fourth Gautam Buddha Memorial Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.



Raut defeated Yuna Bhattachan of GEMS 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 in the final played at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur.[break]



Meanwhile, Shidkiya Acharya Chhetri of DAV School lifted the U-14 girls´ singles title after defeating Renuka Rana Magar of Bijeshwari 14-12, 6-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-4. In the U-16 girls´ singles, Bijeshwari´s Sunita Lama defeated her schoolmate Erica Maharjan 11-8, 11-5, 12-14, 11-13, 11-9 in the final.


HIMS into semis


KATHMANDU: Host Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) entered into the semifinals of the Fifth HIMS Inter-school Boys´ Basketball Tournament after defeating Shuvatara 55-51 on Wednesday. Sonam Tsering scored 22 points for the host. HIMS will take on Baba Boarding School in the semifinal while Galaxy will face Wilson in another semifinal.



Saipal lifts Columbus Cup


KATHMANDU: Saipal clinched the title of the First Columbus Cup Boys´ Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Saipal struggled past CCRC 74-73 in the final played at the host´s court in New Baneshwar. Prajun Pokharel scored 29 points in the final and also won the highest scorer award with 156 points during the tournament. CCRC´s Manoj was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament.


Sherchan wins Bowling


KATHMANDU: Sunil Sherchan clinched the title of the Second Non-professional Bowling Tournament on Wednesday at United Bowling, Tripureshwor. Bigyan Katwal finished second and Tenzing Youden Lama had to satisfy with the third place. With the win, Sherchan bagged a purse of Rs 15,000 while Katwal and Lama received Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Prabin Shakya became the highest scorer in the tournament with 192 points.
