SPORTS BRIEFS: Paudel elected NeCOS prez

KATHMANDU, April 23: The first general assembly of Nepal Confederation of Sports (NeCOS) on Monday unanimously elected Purushottam Paudel as the president of its executive committee to give continuity to its de facto leadership.



The general assembly also unanimously elected the first vice-president, seven vice-presidents and general secretary for four years. [break]



Laxman Shrestha has been elected as the first vice-president while Bijay Rai, Keshav Bista, Mohammad Samiullah, Kumar Ojha, Khadka Bahadur Ranabhat, Binod Mainali and Harak Singh Dhami have been elected as vice-presidents. Lama Tendi Sherpa is the general secretary of the committee. Altogether 503 representatives had participated in the three-day general assembly that concluded on Monday.



NASA, Golden Gate in quarters


KATHMANDU: NASA advanced into the quarterfinals of KCM Basketball Bash in the boys’ category on Monday with a 95-21 rout of St Xaviers. Robin Khatri scored 31 points for the winning team.



In other matches played at the court of Kathmandu College of Management (KCM), Golden Gate reached the last eight defeating Xavier International 49-45 with 18 points from Sushil Gurung while VS Niketan beat host KCM 53-25 as Bijay Bista scored 24 points.
