Top eight teams of the upcoming Martyrs Memorial A Division League and two from the district will compete in the newly proposed National League. The A Division League will kick off on April 27. The bottom four teams of the A Division League will be relegated to the B Division. Meanwhile, FIFA Technical Advisor Holger Obermann conducted a one-day clinic on ´Football for Hope´ in the capital.
Gupta elected secretary
KATHMANDU: Partha Sarathi Sengupta has been elected the technical committee secretary of Asian Weightlifting Federation. Sengupta is also the general secretary of Nepal Weightlifting Association. Sengupta received 28 votes in the technical committee election of the Federation held in Uzbekistan. He will remain in office for four years.

KATHMANDU: Nepal champion Badrilal Nepali, FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Keshav Shrestha, Nabin Tandukar and Uttamraj Thapa won their respective matches in the Second Rambir Memorial Chess Tournament that kicked off at Gabahal, Lalitpur on Thursday. Similarly, Rabindra Shakya, Ganeshman Duwal, Sudip Chatterjee (India) and Bijay Maharjan also won their first day´s matches. Altogether 60 players are participating in the event that will be held for 10 round in Swiss League format.

KATHMANDU: Painachal Youth Club and Khumaltar Youth Club won their respective matches on Thursday in the ongoing Martyrs Memorial C Division League qualifiers. Painachal beat Shantinagar Youth Club in sudden death after the regulation time ended in goalless draw and tie could not be broken in tiebreaker. Likewise, Khumaltar defeated Mandala Football Club 2-0 as Sabin KC scored both the goals in the match played at the ANFA Complex, Lalitpur.
