SPORTS BRIEFS: Lama wins gold

KATHMANDU, June 11: Erika Lama of New Buddha School clinched gold in women´s category of Group A in thaulo event during the First WMMC National Inter-school Wushu Championship on Saturday.



Shiva Maharjan clinched gold in men´s event of the same group.[break] Likewise, Shristi Rai took gold in women´s category of Group B, while Bijay Magar clinched gold in men´s event of Group C.



Baba, Wilson victorious


KATHMANDU: Baba Boarding School and Wilson Academy registered wins in the Fifth HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Baba thrashed RIBS 82-47 with 21 points from Mukesh Baniya. Likewise, 20 points from Pema Daniel guided Wilson to a 42-26 victory over Kailash Bodhi School.



National, NIMS champions


KATHMANDU: Host National College and NIMS clinched the title of the First National College Open Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament in boys´ and girls´ category respectively on Saturday. National defeated its own B team 32-24 to take the title. Tshering Sherpa scored 10 points for the winning team. In the girls´ category, NIMS edged past Saipal Academy 15-14. Sanju Tamang scored five points for NIMS. The winners of both categories bagged Rs 8,000 each and the runners-up received Rs 4,000 each. Prajun Pokharel and Aastha Ghimire won the awards for the most valuable player of the tournament.



Lama, Bhujel set up title clash


KATHMANDU: Furba N Lama of Mitrapark Dojo and Binay Bhujel of Mandikhatar Dojo entered the final in men´s open category of the 17th Valley-wide Gojukai Karate Tournament that kicked off on Saturday.



Likewise, Kusum Dhakal and Anil Sherpa of Mitrapark Dojo set up a title clash in men´s 50 kg. Manish Tamang of Children Model and Sanjiv Gautam of Mitrapark Dojo will vie for the title in men´s 45 kg, while in the 40 kg final Manish Thapamagar of National United will face Sunil Thing of Mitrapark. Similarly, Prabin Danuwar of Children Model and Indra Rai of National United will compete in 35 kg final, while Bharat Singh Bista and Sudip Silwal of Mitrapark will vie for the title in 30 kg. Under women´s category, Nisha Shrestha of Mitrapark dojo set up a final clash against Sima Gharti of Children Model. Sabina Lama of Emmanuel, Bibisa Raut of Golden Peak, Amisa KC of Manjari and Muskan KC of Mahendra Bhawan have made it to the last four.
