SPORTS BRIEFS: Kusum wins gold in TT

KATHMANDU, June 27: Sushil Kusma of Mount Valley School clinched gold in U-14 boys´ singles Wednesday in the Fifth Valley-wide Inter School Table Tennis Tournament. Kusma overcame Dilip Gurung of AVM in three straight sets during the final held at Lainchaur Table Tennis Training Center. Bhabuk Joshi of AVM secured first position in U-12 category. [break]



Joshi edged past Santu Shrestha of Nobel for the gold medal. Prashant Baral of New Summit in junior boys and Smarika Kharel of Araniko in junior girls´ section secured first positions. Baral thumped Mingsu Limbu of Galaxy and Kharel saw off Nimi Sherpa of White Field. In senior boys´ Roshan Lama of Children Garden edged past Rajan Bastakoti of The Excelsior while Areian Badgami of Modern Indian defeated Jenisha Shrestha of Angel´s Lord for gold medals in senior boys´ and girls respectively.


National´s three teams into next round


KATHMANDU: Three teams of National Campus on Wednesday advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Third Nobel Cup U-19 3X3 Basketball Tournament in boys´ section. Similarly, three teams each of Trinity and Golden Gate also secured places for pre-quarterfinal round.



Navajeevan, Triton, NASA, Premier A and Nobel Academy A and C team also advanced into the next round. Semifinal lineup has been completed in girls´ category, in which host Nobel will face Golden Gate in the first semifinal and Premier meets NASA in another.


KCMS, GoldenGate into semis

KATHMANDU: KCMS on Wednesday advanced to the semifinals of the First Inter-college Masters Science Basketball Tournament. KCMS edged past Tri Chandra College 24-22 in the last league match of Group B for a place in the last four. Mahesh Pant netted seven points for the winning team. Despite losing the match Tri Chandra also qualified for the semifinals as the group runner-up. In Group A, host GoldenGate defeated TU 33-23 and booked a semifinal berth. TU also secured its place in the last four as the group runner-up.
