Organizing a press meet on Tuesday, WMMC President Baburam Gautam informed that 12 teams from across the nation would compete in the tournament to be organized under the technical support of All Nepal Football Association. [break]
Host team Workers Martyrs Memorial Club, Kathmandu; Sahara Club, Pokhara; Knight Chess Club, Jhapa; Aadarsha Youth Club, Kaski; Kathmandu-11, Kathmandu; Gorkha Boys Sports Club, Rupandehi; Pokhara-11, Pokhara and PLA Sports Club, Chitwan will compete in the tournament.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to inaugurate the tournament.
The winners and the runners up of the tournament would bag a purse of Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively along with trophies, medals and certificates. Likewise, the two semifinalists will also receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each. The man-of-the-tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
The expected expenses of the tournament is about Rs 1.5 million.
Patan Campus in Akhil Cup semis
KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Patan Multiple Campus secured berth in the semifinals of the Akhil Cup Valley-wide Inter College Football Tournament defeating Triton College 2-1 in the second quarterfinal match held at the Chyasal Ground, Lalitpur, on Wednesday.
Triton took the lead in the 33rd minute through Kailash Chamling Rai´s goal. However, Patan´s Rajendra Gurung scored an equalizer three minutes later while Roop Chandra Bista sealed the match in the 56th minute.
Patan Campus will face Xavier International College on January 22 at the Dasharath Stadium.
The third quarterfinal match will be held on Thursday at the Chyasal Ground between Shankar Dev Campus and Nepal Commerce Campus at 11 a.m.
MMC take on Machhindra on Thursday
KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) will take on Machhindra Club on Thursday in the second semifinal of the British Gurkha Cup Football Tournament being held at the Dasharath Stadium.
Three Star Club have already booked their place in the final by defeating Rani Pokhari Corner Team 2-1 in the first semifinal held on Tuesday.
MMC had a hard fought 1-0 win over New Road Team in the quarterfinal on Saturday while Machhindra edged past APF 1-0 in another quarterfinal. Both teams pitted in the same group played a goalless draw in the league round. Both of them accumulated seven points each to qualify for the knockout stage as the group winners and the runners up.
