Thapa lost the final match 2-1 after he sustained injury in the first round match against India´s top seed S Setu of Tamilnadu who was defeated by Thapa during the semifinal of last edition.[break]
Thapa had muscle cramp in his left thigh while he was leading the first set 4-1. Though Thapa recovered after primary treatment, he lost the first set 6-7 in a tie breaker. He bounced back in the second set and won it 7-6.
But Thapa lost the decisive set 3-6. Thapa, the chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Nepal), had crashed out from men´s doubles semifinal on Wednesday.
The event was organized by All India Senior Tennis Association.
FIFA grass-root course begins at Butwal
KATHMANDU: A five-day long FIFA Grass-root Course began at Butwal on Thursday. Altogether 24 trainees associated with the clubs of Rupandehi District Football Association and the schools of the district participated in the course. Coaching instructor from FIFA technical instructor group Vincent Subramaniam will give knowledge on theoretical and practical aspects of training children from 6-12 years age on different formats.
During the training course, 40-100 players will be given practical training and a football festival consisting of 300 young (child) players will be held on October 16. The course is conducted at the FIFA Technical Center, Butwal. The course is part of world football´s supreme body, FIFA, and will be organized by All Nepal Football Association and Rupandehi District Football Association.
Birtamod off to winning start
JHAPA: Birtamod Football Team started with a win in the Eastern Region-level Knockout Football Tournament that kicked off on Thursday at Surunga in Jhapa. Birtamod defeated the visitors United Kharsang Football Club of India 2-0. Dipak Rai opened the scoring for Birtamod in the 19th minute through a brilliant freekick. Sachindra Dhimal ensured the victory for Birtamod as he doubled the tally during the 26th minute of the second half. The tournament organized by Surunga Jaycees is being held at the ground of Kankai Higher Secondary School.
The tournament participated by eight teams from Nepal and India will go on until October 21. The winner and the runner up teams will bag a purse of Rs 51,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Sainik Football Club, Jhapa will take on Urlabari Football Club, Morang on Friday.
