Players from six countries including India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nigeria, Bangladesh and hosts Nepal have confirmed their participation, stated Heerakaji Maharjan, president of the Club at a press meet in the capital on Friday. [break]
“We have also invited players from the UAE, Germany, Maldives, Malaysia, Bhutan and others and some of them are likely to come from there,” added Maharjan.
The tournament will be held in the Swiss League Format till the tenth round.
The top five players will bag a purse of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 in the tournament that carries a total cash prize of Rs 105,000. The group winners (5 players) will be awarded with Rs 2,000 each. Likewise, the winners of unrated, women, veteran, U-15 and U-20 categories will also be awarded with cash prize.
The organizers have expected participation of 110 players, including 35 from outside Nepal. The expected expenses for the tournament is Rs 600,000.
Innovative, Kantipur advance
KATHMANDU, April 23: The boys´ teams of Innovative and Kantipur advanced into the semifinals of the First Open Basketball Tournament on Friday.
Susan Thapa contributed 26 points as Innovative thrashed Himalayan 60-13 while Kantipur hammered Nirmal 33-15 at the court of Himalayan Whitehouse, New Baneshwar. Puma Lama scored the highest 13 points for Kantipur.
In the girls´ category, Teresa secured victory over Gaurishankar with a wide margin of 26-5.
BSAM, LRI start with win
KATHMANDU, April 23: Hosts Birendra Sainik School (BSAM) and LRI won their respective matches on Friday during the Third Chief of the Army Staff Inter School Running Cricket Tournament being held at the BSAM Cricket Ground, Bhaktapur.
Birendra Sainik defeated Mount Glory International by six wickets. Batting first, Mount Glory put up 112 runs in limited 20 overs losing nine wickets. In reply, Birendra Sainik met the target in 19.1 overs losing four wickets.
Likewise, LRI thrashed Mahendra Vidyashram by eight wickets. Mahendra Vidyashram put up 109 runs in limited 20 overs losing eight wickets. In reply, LRI met the target in 14.3 overs losing two wickets.
