HIMS, Baba starts with win
KATHMANDU: Host and defending champion Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) and Baba Boarding School won their respective matches on the opening day of the Fifth HIMS Inter-school Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday. HIMS thrashed Kailashbodhi 24-11 on the home court at Narayantar, Kathmandu. Likewise, Baba defeated Galaxy 56-53. Altogether eight teams are participating in the tournament.
Gem reaches final
KATHMANDU: Gem English Boarding School, Sunsari booked semifinal berth in the PABSON President Mega Cup Football Tournament on Thursday. Gem thrashed Priyanka Secondary School, Kailali 13-0 at the ground of Laboratory School, Kirtipur. Suman Parajuli and Hemanta Thapa scored five goals each while Dorje Tamang, Ujjwal Chemjong and Rajesh Rai added a goal each. Parajuli was later adjudged man-of-the-match. Gem will take on Graded English Medium School (GEMS), Lalitpur in the semifinal while Elite English School, Rupandehi will take on Merigold School, Kaski on Friday.
Saipal registers easy win
KATHMANDU: Saipal School registered an easy victory over Kavya School in the First Columbus Cup Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Saipal thrashed Kavya 82-25 as Binesh Neupane scored 20 points for the winning side. Likewise, CCRC beat Times 77-54 as Manoj scored 23 points for the winning team.
LRI boys win gold medals
KATHMANDU: LRI School´s Milan Thapa, Amar Shrestha and John Lama won gold medals in kumite events of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Inter-school Karate Tournament on Thursday. Thapa defeated Biplav Neupane of Gurukul in boys´ 30 kg while Shrestha edged past Dhiren Gurung of Gurukul in boys´ 35 kg. Lama beat Anish Sunuwar of DAV in boys´ 40 kg. Angel Maharjan added one more gold to LRI account from boys´ single kata. Altogether 16 events are included in the tournament organized by Indian Embassy in Nepal and DAV School, Jawalakhel.
Swar, Chand clinch title
MAHENDRANAGAR: The pair of Govinda Swar and Diwan Chand clinched the title of Veteran Badminton Tournament here on Thursday. Swar and Chand defeated pair of Sanjiv Chandra Bhatta and Harish Thapa 17-21, 21-13, 21-14. Altogether 16 local badminton veterans had participated in the tournament.
