SPORTS BRIEFS: Bijeshwari win double gold

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Bijeshwari School claimed two golds on the inaugural day of the First National Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament sponsored by Barah Jewellery on Sunday. Bijeshwari won the girls´ team event and the U-10 girls´ singles held at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur.



In the girls´ team event final, Bijeshwari defeated Adarsha Vidya Mandir 3-1 to claim the first position. Annapurna School and Prabhat School stood third. [break]



In the title clash of U-10 girls´ singles, Eva Raut of Bijeshwari edged out Subina Koju of Bal Bikash 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 in straight sets. Deepa Shrestha of Angel Lord and Neha Wiyala of DAV finished third.



In the boys´ team event, Prabhat and Nyatapol won their respective matches to advance into the final. Prabhat defeated Bal Bikash 3-1 while Nyatapol ousted Everest 3-2 in the semifinals.



The tournament organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association will conclude on Tuesday.







Shakya back in NRT



KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Army Club coach Rajukaji Shakya has returned to his old club New Road Team (NRT). Shakya, who spent two years in Army Club, signed with NRT recently.



Shakya guided Army to the finals of five national tournaments in a span of two years. "A set of experienced players have left NRT and situation is tough, but I like to take new challenges," said Shakya.





Budhanilkantha beat Takshashila



KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Hosts Budhanilkantha defeated Takshashila Academy 5-0 in the inaugural match of the Second NK Memorial Inter-college Football Tournament.



Rahul Malla completed a hat-trick for the winners while Abhishek Thapa added two more.



Altogether 12 colleges are contesting in the league-cum-knockout tournament.
