According to Dhruba Bikram Malla, president of the academy, the three storied academy building will have halls for hosting tournaments, a training center and hostel facilities. Malla also claimed that the academy will enroll 50 young karate players and will provide them scholarships. [break]
According to Malla, Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute and Janajagriti Gyan Rashmi Secondary School have been providing scholarships to 20 players of the academy currently. Academy is organizing a mahayagya (a religious ceremony of Hindus) from Saturday to raise money for the project. The estimated cost of building the academy is Rs 30 million.
Shrestha claims TT title
KATHMANDU: Nihal Shrestha won the U-21 men´s singles title under the open category in the Eighth Hareram Joshi Memorial Open and Inter School Table Tennis Championship on Wednesday. Shrestha registered a 11-9, 8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7 victory over Krishna Thapa Magar in the final played at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur. In the inter-school section, Syantu Shrestha of Nobel Academy clinched U-14 boys singles title as he defeated Prajwal KC of Little Angels 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 12-10. Sonu Thapa Magar of Neologian became the champion of U-14 girls´ singles event.
Thapa Magar beat Diksha Tamang of AVM 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11-8. Altogether 161 players, including 31 girls and 130 boys, had participated in the tournament organized by Hareram Memorial Foundation. The foundation was formed by veteran table tennis coach Ramesh Raj Joshi in the memory of his father.
Bhutan achieves mix results
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Bhutan´s national football team beat Nepal´s U-19 and was defeated by U-16 age group teams by identical 1-0 scores on Wednesday in 45-minute long friendly matches each played in the capital.
In the first 45 minute match played against U-19, Bhutan scored in the 43rd minute taking advantage of poor defending of Nepali team. In the other 45 minute match played against U-16, Anil Rai succeeded finding the back of net after his shot deflected at Bhutan´s defender taking the director of post.
Bhutan is in Nepal to play SAFF Championship to begin on Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium. The friendly was played as part of preparation for the championship. Nepal´s U-16 and U-19 are also preparing for AFC U-19 and U-19 Qualifiers to be held on September and October respectively.
