Army lifts volleyball title
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Club successfully defended the title of Fourth Nakhipot Nationwide Open Volleyball Tournament on Saturday defeating Armed Police Force (APF) Club in a five-set thriller. Army fought back from two sets down to beat its departmental rival team in 3-2 sets. Army took the first set 25-19 and lost the second 18-25. APF took a 2-1 lead scoring 23-25 in the third set.
Army bounced back in the fourth set scoring 25-21 to tie the game. Army dominated the final set and hammered 15-5 to lift the trophy. With the win army bagged Rs 60,000 while APF settled for Rs 30,000. Milan Malla of APF was adjudged the best player and bagged a purse of Rs 8,000.
Bhoj Bahadur Thapa and Raju Thapa of army were declared the best spiker and best lifter respectively while Puspha Raj Malla of APF received the best defender award. Altogether six teams had participated in the tournament played in round robin format.
