Guheshwari starts with win
KATHMANDU: Host Guheshwari Football Association started on a winning note in the Guheshwari Girl´s Cup Six A Side Football Tournament that kicked off on Saturday in the capital. With two goals from Pramila Tamang Guheshwari edged past Kathmandu University A. Samita Rai and Samana Maharjan also netted one each for the host team. In another match, Kathmandu University A and Gram Sewa played 1-1 draw. Sahara Maharjan scored for Gram Sewa but Akriti Shakya equalized for Kathmandu Univeristy in the 30-minute match.
Rai, Baniya wins 10 km race
KATHMANDU : Melina Rai and Kalyan Baniya clinched 10 km race title under women´s and men´s section respectively on Saturday during the second day of Himalayan Outdoor Festival being held at Hattiban. Rai completed the distance in 1 hour 26 minutes and 25 seconds. Baniya took 1 hour 3 minutes and 45 seconds to finish the race. Nim Lama Sherpa secured second and Kase Kopans third position in women´s category. Rajan Khatri finished second in men´s section clocking 1 hour 4 minutes 26 seconds and Samir Tamang clinched the third position. Tamang finished the race in 1 hour 6 minutes 50 seconds.
Financial support to cricketers
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Sports Foundation and Nepalese Cricket Fans on Saturday handed over Rs 54,000 to cricketers Amrit Bhattarai and Chandra Saud for their stay in Sri Lanka. The two are leaving for Sri Lanka to play U-23 Inter-club Cricket Tournament from Port Authority Cricket Club. The club has offered the players only a place to stay. The players themselves need to arrange for their transportation and food. Nepal Sports Foundation and Nepalese Cricket Fans collected the amount for their stay through social networking site Facebook. Golden Gate International College had already sponsored two-way air fare for the cricketers.
Sainik lifts inter-school title
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya on Saturday lifted the title of First Olympia Inter-school U-14 Boys Knockout Football Tournament held at Jawalakhel ground. Sainik thrashed LRI 7-0 in the final with six goals coming in the second half. Pradip Thapa completed a hat-trick for Sainik while Sahadev Gautam scored twice. Roshan Neupane and Rajendra Thagunna also scored a goal each. Sainik´s Sahadev Gautam was declared the best player while Yubaraj Tamang of same team won the best defender award. Nobel Academy´s Pujan Subba and LRI´s Swastik Adhikari were declared the best goalkeeper and midfielder respectively. Olympia´s Asim BC was adjudged the emerging player and the fair play award went to little Angel´s.
Shrestha re-elected to lead NPCA
KATHMANDU: Founder president Narendraman Shrestha was re-elected to lead Nepal Players and Coaches Association (NPCA) on Saturday. The first general assembly of the association held at the National Sports Council elected a 24-member committee unopposed for a four-year tenure. Swayambhu Raj Dangol and Yogendraman Dangol are the vice presidents. Mahesh Maharjan retained the post of general secretary while Rajendra Pathak was elected secretary and Ashis Dware treasurer respectively.
Khadka win mini marathon
KATHMANDU: Sangita Khadka from Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya won the title of Genesis Mini Marathon 2012 in the girl´s category while Anish shrestha from Shree Bansbari School finished first in the boys´ category, on Saturday. Khadka finished the six kilometers race in 31 minutes and 13 seconds ahead of her school mates Binita Joshi (32:00) and Bindhu Bhandari (35:26). In the boys´ section, Shrestha completed the race in 28 minutes and 2 seconds. Sujan Shrestha (28:34) from Nava Jyoti and Nishal Khatri (29:41) from Cambridge Public School finished second and third respectively. According to a press statement released by Genesis Events Pvt Ltd, more than 450 school children had participated in the event held with the slogan ´Run for Education´.
