Army School into semis
KATHMANDU:Army School defeated Brihaspati Vidyasadan by 99 runs in the Fourth Chief of the Army Staff Inter School Running Cricket Tournament on Tuesday to secure the semifinal berth. With the help of 51 runs from Kiran Shrestha, Army School accumulated 149 runs losing four wickets in the regular 20 overs. Yogesh Luitel grabbed two wickets for Brihaspati. Man-of-the-match Milan Karki´s five wickets haul helped Army School to restrict Brihaspati on 50 runs in 12.2 over.
Nilab Pandey tried hard to guide the team but was out after scoring 20 runs. In the other match, Princeton beat EPS by 16 runs. Simon Malla scored 21 runs off 18 balls to guide his team to a total of 122 runs losing seven wickets. Suman Sijapati and Dhiraj Mishra took three wickets each to restrict EPS on 106 runs off 19.3 overs.
APF into last four
KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force (APF) made it to the semifinal of Second International Club Championship Workers Cup Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday. APF defeated visitors Water Development Board of Bangladesh in the last group match. Despite taking 25-22 lead in the first set, the visitors slumped 20-25, 13-25, 17-25 in other sets to crash out from the event being held at Martyrs Memorial Ground, Bhaktapur.
The results secured APF´s place in last four as the runners up from group A. Nepal Police Club has already secured semifinal berth as the winner of the same group. Nepal Army Club and Power Development Board, Bangladesh have advanced from group B as the winners and runners up respectively. Police will take on Power Development Board and Army will play against APF in the semifinals.
Bansbari, Machhindra, Three Star winners
KATHMANDU: Jitendra Shrestha´s hat-trick helped Bansbari Club thrash Himalayan Sherpa Club 4-0 on Tuesday in the Nepal Bank Limited Junior (U-14) Football Tournament. Shrestha scored in the 13th, 45th and 62nd minutes for Bansbari while Binay Shrestha added another goal in the 37th minute at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato.
In the next match of the day, Machhindra Club edged past Friends Club 2-1with goals from Prashant Shrestha and Anup Rai. Chabbi Lal Rokka scored the consolation goal for Friends. In the last match of the day, goals from Manish Karki and Krishna Lama helped Nabil Three Star Club beat Jawalakhel Youth Club 2-0. Wednesday´s match has been postponed for the next day due to technical reasons.
