During Karki´s tenure, the tribunal slapped a total jail sentence of 94 years 4 months and 29 days to former ministers, top police officers and bureaucrats, among others for corruption. The court in the period has fined Rs 911 million and confiscated Rs 2.24 billion from those convicted in corruption cases.

The tribunal convicted former IGPs Om Bikram Rana, Hem Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh Chand Thakuri of corruption.

The Special Court also convicted several former ministers, including Govindaraj Joshi and Rabindranath Sharma, among others, of corruption.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has not filed any big corruption case at the Special Court for the last six years.

Addressing the function, Karki said he upheld impartiality during his tenure despite threats and stressed the need for making timely amendments to the existing laws related to CIAA, corruption and money laundering, among others.

"The court cannot issue verdicts by overstepping the laws and the laws are rather lenient on the corrupt. This underscores the need to bring timely amendments to outdated laws,” he said.
