KATHMANDU, Aug 19: A meeting of the Special Committee under the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) held with a view to sorting out disputes surroundings the draft constitution including proposed six-province federal model concluded late this evening with no concrete achievements.

The meeting that started at 10:00 am spanned for 10 hours.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala was supposed to decide on the disputed matters and present the report to the Constitution Drafting Committee. The Panel which comprises top leaders of major political parties has agreed to meet again at 10: am Thursday with the determination of settling the issues.

The Constitution Drafting Committee on Tuesday was given four more days by the Constituent Assembly (CA) to prepare a bill on the basis of the constitution draft.

It may be noted that political parties are finding it hard to address people's voices against the proposed demarcation of federal units and have reached an agreement on electoral threshold and finalize the matter of federalism.

Talking to media after the meeting, Committee Coordinator Baburam Bhatarai said the Special Committee will reach to a conclusion on Thursday. He did not elaborate the alternatives to federal set-up that were discussed in the meeting. RSS
