Addressing an interaction program organized by Reporters´ Club-Nepal, Gajurel argued that the promulgation of new constitution was delayed as CA Chairman Nembang did not send the reports submitted by various 11 thematic committees under the CA for discussions for 13 months. He alleged that Nembang stalled discussions citing lack of consensus among parties.
Gajurel said that Nembang should solely take the blame as constitution drafting process could not move ahead due to delay in sending the reports of thematic committees for discussions. He also asked people not to blame CA members and party leaders for delay in promulgating new constitution.
“It was wrong on his part to wait until consensus among parties. Political parties would have felt obligated to hold discussions on the issues had the speaker chosen to send the reports to the concerned committee. Only then the parties would have been liable to either criticism or respect,” he argued.
On the occasion, Gajurel, who is close to Maoist Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, also warned that they would change the parliamentary party leader if the Maoist representation in the cabinet was not made inclusive.
He said that they have also submitted a proposal on the issue with signatures of 159 lawmakers of the party to Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He said that they would be forced to change the party´s PP leader if the proposal is not implemented. Currently, Chairman Dahal himself is the Maoist parliamentary party leader.
