BIRGUNJ, March 27: Businesses remained closed in Birgunj, one of the major commercial hubs in the country, for the second consecutive day on Friday. Vehicles in the town remained off the road.

Locals and kin of the youth who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Thursday have called an indefinite banda (general strike) demanding that the government bring the guilty to book and declare the deceased a martyr.

Unidentified assailants shot dead local Sanjay Prasad Gupta, 19, outside the Customs Office in Birgunj early Thursday morning. He died on the way to hospital.

Though local administration recommended the teenager´s name to the higher authorities for declaring him as martyr the authorities have failed to arrest the culprits, said the agitators. They have decided to continue protests until the authorities bring the culprits to book. Birgunj area has turned tense after locals launched protests laying the body of the deceased teen on the road.
