KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The agitating Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) on Sunday enforced general strikes in Gandaki and Dhaulagiri zones protesting against federalism.

Life in various districts including Tanahun, Kaski, Baglung, Gorkha and Parvat was badly affected due to the general strikes. RJM cadres staged demonstrations in various places including Pokhara, and Damauli by burning tires since early morning.

All businesses, academic institutions and transport in the region were affected due to the strike. Tourists were hit hard in Pokhara.

There was, however, no effect of the strikes in Mustang district in Dhaulagiri Zone.

According to RJM Central Vice Chair Bhawani Baral, the strike was organized to exert pressure on other political parties to withdraw their plan to go to federalism. RJM has been maintaining that federalism will not only bring about hostility among various ethic groups, but also put the country´s existence in jeopardy.

Baral said they plan to enforce general shutdown in other zones as well in the interval of three days.

RJM is the only political party that has been advocating against federalism in the country.
