Shekhar Limbu stars in RCT victory

KATHMANDU, May 14: Shekhar Limbu completed a hat-trick as Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) beat Nepal Army Club 4-3 on Saturday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull A Division League at the Dasharath Stadium.



Earlier, in the days kick off, Brigade Boys Club (BBC) failed to take advantage of 10-man United Youth Club as it played 1-1 draw.[break]



Limbu scored all three goals after the interval for RCT which is undergoing close camp for the tournament at Banepa since last two months. Limbu who scored his fourth individual league goal also become the sixth player to score hat-trick in the ongoing league.



RCT coach Madhu Karki credited the close camp training and hard effort of his players as the story behind his team impressive run in the league.



“Everything in the team is balanced. Besides this all the 24 players of the squad stay in Banepa and we are a team.”



With the win RCT jumped to fourth position with 10 points, jumping two steps ahead from four matches while Army remained constant in the ninth position with four points. Similarly, BBC jumped out of the relegation zone and secured 15th position moving one step ahead with two points. United, from the bottom of the table jumped to 16th spot, opening account in the 18-team contest.



Bhim Darlami had put RCT ahead in the 18th minute. Darlami had hit the ball from goal-line while Army players were inattentive following a penalty appeal from the RCT players.



Army, however, had hit back the equalizer in the 54th minute when Deep Bahadur Lama made a powerful strike to send the ball past net from the left flank.



Limbu doubled the tally for team in the 58th minute after he beat advancing army goalie Bikash Malla and defender Ram Kumar Biswas to make the score 2-1. His second goal came in the 72nd minute when he made a brilliant second bar finishing. Limbu completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he slammed in a powerful shot from the box in a short freekick pass of Dipesh Thapamagar.



RCT was awarded with freekick after Army custodian caught Chun Bahadur Thapa pass in box to make the score 4-0.







Army in the brink of huge margin defeat succeeded to net two goals during the stoppage time. Tek Bahadur Burathoki netted the second goal for Army in the third minute of injury time and defender Ram Kumar Biswas headed for the third goal a minute later. No sooner had army made the score 4-3 and RCT had just started the ball referee blew the whistle signaling the match to be over.



RCT coach Karki said that his side achieved the target of gaining full three points. He termed the last two goals conceded by his side as silly. “Had the boys hold the ball we should not have conceded last two goals, but the boys played offensively.”



Karki´s counterpart Dambar Singh Gurung said that his side conceded stupid goals. “Though the boys did not play bad, we conceded stupid goals.” He pointed out lack of coordination between defenders and also criticized his goalie Malla.



Earlier, in the match between teams promoted to first division this season, BBC had taken 57th minute lead through Diwas Gurung, six minutes after United got limited to 10-man. Bijay Shahi was sent off after he got second yellow for handing the ball. Gurung scored seizing ball from defender Raj Krishna Prajapati who was trying to block Gurung and pass it to advancing goalie Ajay Maharjan.



United skipper Binaya Maharjan twice failed to beat BBC glovesman Suman Ranjitkar in one-on-one position during the second half. For BBC Yelambar Rai´s powerful strike twice sailed inches above the bar after interval.



Untied coach Roshan Dangol saved said that his side failed to achieve target of gaining full three points. “To miss in one-versus-one position was unfortunate,” Dangol said. BBC coach Sanjog Shrestha commented that his side played low standard match as compared to previous matches.
