Shankar Dev beat Kathmandu College of Management and Information Technology (KCMIT) 3-0 in the final match played at the Chyasal Football Ground.[break]
The first half of the match remained goalless but Bikas Sapkota, Sudesh Bohara and Dev Thapa Magar scored a goal each in the second half to seal the victory for Shankar Dev.
Sapkota won the award for best striker of the tournament while Raju Kumar Bhattara of Shankar Dev was adjudged best defender of the tournament.
Campion´s Niroj KC received best goalkeeper award while KCMIT Nischal Bal Lama was adjudged the best midfielder of the tournament.
Lama wins women´s title
Kincho Lama won the title of women´s category in the First Hyundai Open Golf Tournament on Friday.
Lama scored 14 points in the amateur golf event played in the 3/4 Stableford handicap format at the Army Officers Golf Club . Pushpa Rai stood second.
Meanwhile, Neeraj SJB Rana stood in the top of men´s section on Friday. Rana and Hikmat Bahadur Chand scored 36 points each but Royal Nepal Golf Club´s (RNGC´s) Rana remained ahead in count back. Rana accumulated 18 points each in both back nine and front nine. Army Club´s Chand scored 20 points in front nine but scored only 16 in back nine.
RNGC golfers Gopal Chitrakar and Aang Norbu both scored 32 points each to secure third position. They scored 16 points each in both back nine and front nine. Gopal Bahadur Gurung, MB Limbu and Sudhir Sherchan scored equal 31 points. Gurung and Sherchan are jointly in the fifth position while Limbu is behind them in count back.
Altogether 33 golfers, including three women, competed in the two-day tournament on Friday. Another 74 golfers will compete in the tournament on Saturday. The winners and runners-up of the senior and men´s category will finalized after the completion of Saturday´s play.
The tournament organized by Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd also has awards for closest to the pin, longest drive, most birdies and best gross.
Sharma in ITF championship
Pankaj Sharma will represent Nepal in the ITF XVII Taekwondo World Championship and the ITF XI Junior Taekwondo World Championship scheduled for March 9 to 13 in Wellington, New Zealand.
Sharma, a third degree black-belt, currently living in Australia, will compete in 65 to 70 kg weight category.
“I am training hard with a hope of winning a medal,” he said. “I am representing Nepal there and I want to make my nation proud.”
Sharma, a qualified international instructor, began training ITF taekwondo in 1996 and in 2008, moved to Australia where he instructs more than 400 students at Queensland Taekwondo Club.
NPC sign Khawas
Nepal Police Club (NPC) signed striker Bharat Khawas in their football squad on Friday. NPC also registered him in the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Friday.
Khawas, who has not signed any club after playing last league season for Friends Club. “He will join the police department later fulfilling all the departmental procedures. For now we have signed a contract through mutual understanding,” said Hari Khadka, NPC team manager.
“As Chetan Ghimire and Dipen Shrestha sustained injury, we were looking for a player in striking zone to support Jumanu Rai. We are hopeful Bharat (Khawas) will meet our expectation,” he added.
VS Niketan beat hosts
The boys´ team of VS Niketan defeated the hosts Bagmati ´A´ to set up a semifinal clash with Morgan International during the First Bagmati Modern Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Friday.
Tashi Sherpa scored 12 points as VS saw off the hosts 45-29 on their home court in Sukedhara. Morgan beat Texas 54-49 riding on 22 points from Saurav Shrestha. In other matches, National Campus and Reliance also made it to the semifinals winning their respective matches.
National struggled past Whitehouse 47-44. Bikash Gurung contributed 17 points for the winners.
Likewise, Reliance edged out Bridge Water 38-26 as Nima Sherpa scored 12 points for them. In the girls´ category, Ronahi Limbu of NASA scored 19 points as they beat Reliance 34-18 in their round robin match.
Pentagon begin SPA Cup campaign with a win
Defending champions Pentagon College Kathmandu began their The Hotel Devotee SPA Cup National Inter-college Twenty20 cricket tournament with a thumping victory over Jagannath Multiple Campus Baitadi on Friday.
Jagannath Campus, electing to bat first, put up 79/9 in allotted 20 overs as Dinesh Aagree, Dhirendra Chand and Kuldeep Khadka took two wickets each. Captain Khemaraj Bhatta (15 runs) was the highest contributor for Jagannath Campus.
In reply, Pentagon met the target in 10.2 overs with the loss of four wickets. Neeraj Chand and man of the match Lokendra Chand scored 19 runs each to seal the victory for Pentagon.
The winners of the tournament will bag Rs 100,000 while runners-up will get Rs 40,000. Likewise, man of the series will receive Rs 25,000 while best batsman, best bowler and best fielder will get Rs 15,000 each.
Vice-president Parmananda Jha inaugurated the tournament participated by 16 teams. During the inaugural program, taekwondo ace and the South Asian Games record holder Deepak Bista was felicitated.
