Seven inmates injured in clash, two critical

JAJBIRAJ, April 2: Seven inmates were injured in a clash inside the Saptari district prison on Tuesday. The condition of two inmates injured in the incident is said to be critical.



According to the police, the two -- Bikesh Chaudhari and Tilen Sherpa -- has been referred to Dharan for further treatment. Five others injured in the clash have been undergoing treatment at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Singh Chaudhary. [break]



“The group led by inmate Dharmedra Yadav thrashed us,” said an injured inmate Rajendra Tamang, “Dharmedra was involved extorting money from the new inmates. After we refused to pay him money, he set up a group to attack us,” Tamang added.



Gyanu Rai, another injured, said Dhiru Yadav, Sunil Yadav, Krishnadev Mehta, Shrawan Sardar led by Darmendra Yadav attacked the inmates with the bamboo sticks, iron rods and knives.



According to another injured inmate Bidur Bhattarai, who has been serving jail term for drug smuggling, Darmendra and his group tortured other inmates who refused to pay Rs 50,000.



Tinku Singh of Rajbiraj, Rajeshwar Limbu of Morang, Rajendra Tamang of Makawnapur and Bikesh Chaudhari are other inmates injured in the clash.
