The six-member committee, formed by TU under the leadership of Dean of the Management Faculty Dr Govinda Prasad Acharya on March 19, submitted its report Thursday. “We will present it to the TU executive council tomorrow (Friday),” TU Vice-chancellor Prof Madhav Sharma said. [break]
The report has made recommendations for improving examinations procedure but has not found Dean of The Institute of Medicine (IOM) Dr Arun Sayami guilty of any wrongdoings, an official who has seen the report said requesting anonymity.
The hospital, that treats around 1,500 patients daily, had decided to stop taking indoor patients from March 15 because of protests by doctors alleging that post-graduate entrance examinations conducted on March 13 and 14 were rigged by Dr Sayami and demanding their cancellation. It shut down even the emergency ward from 3 pm Tuesday and just 83 of the total of 482 beds are occupied as of Thursday afternoon.
Hospital opens emergency
The hospital opened its emergency ward since noon with one faculty doctor on the initiation of locals at Maharajgunj but patients didn´t turn up for treatment due to the news of strike. “Around five patients have come till now but none were sick enough to be registered here,” a nurse at the ward said at around 4:30 p.m.
The faculty doctor Ramesh Maharjan also went off the ward later in the day in the lack of patients.
Meanwhile the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all the parties concerned to immediately resume services at the hospital through dialogue and agreement between the stakeholders.
