Security boosted in Lumbini

BUTWAL, July 13: Following the string of blasts in Bodhgaya of India, the security in Lumbini, a famous Buddhist shrine in Nepal, has been boosted.



The District Police Office, Bhairahawa, has said only armed police were mobilized for the security in Lumbini and the vicinity, but now the security is augmented in the area. Deputy Superintendent of Police in the district, Hari Bahadur Pal, said that a special security arrangement was made in the Lumbini area, one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrim sites of the world. According to him, 30 police persons in the command of a police inspector were added in the area while some border areas and checkpoints have more number of security persons in plain clothes.



Similarly, the Lumbini Development Trust has said Kapilvastu, Ramgram and other places which are related to the Buddha are under high security watch.



The Trust further said every tourist is checked thoroughly and allowed entering the area in view of the security. Even the internal security is beefed up, Trust Treasurer Om Prakash Aryal said.



An emergency meeting of the Trust three days ago had decided about augmenting the security for immediate and long-term purpose in the Lumbini area.
