With the Office of the Cantonment Management and the Nepal Peace Trust Fund signing an agreement on funding the secretariat´s works, including the establishment of the situation center this week, the task of preparing a working plan of the proposed situation center has already kicked off. [break]
“The situation center is likely to be in place within a week,” said Bala Nanda Sharma, a convener at the secretariat.
As per the agreement, the situation center will have 12-16 personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and People´s Liberation Army (PLA).
The need for a situation center was felt as there is no formal channel through which the arms and army monitors deployed at the cantonments could report to the secretariat.
“The monitors could report to the secretariat only during the office hour. After that they called at the homes of the secretariat officials,” said Sharma on the need of the situation center. Sharma said the office of the center at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction is almost ready.
