School for deaf to get modern building

BAGLUNG, Dec 19: Construction of a well-equipped building for a school for the deaf has been started in Bangechour of Baglung municipality.



The government will provide most of the amount required for the 24-room building of Dhauligri Primary School for the Deaf that is estimated to cost around Rs 23.1 million while Pan Nepal will provide Rs 2.95 million. [break]



The school will also provide residential facility along with education to deaf students from Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi and Mustang districts of Dhaulagiri zone and other neighboring districts. The school, only one providing formal education along with residential facility for deaf students in Dhaulagiri, currently has 60 students from Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi, Tanahu and Chitwan studying from Grade I to III. It is currently being operated in a rented buildiing for which it pays Rs 12,000 a month.



Advisor to the school KB Rana Magar said the government is currently providing Rs 1,200 for each student every month. “The government of Sweden is also providing some assistance as we face financial difficulty while providing residential facility to all students,” Magar said. He revealed plan of expanding the school up to Plus 2 level increasing a grade every year.



Principal of the school Yukta Jung Rajbhandari expressed hopes that even the quality of education will improve once the new building comes into operation. The school established by Baglung Organization for Deaf has five teachers and two caretakers.
