School closed for a week as students show unusual symptoms

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: The Araniko Higher Secondary School at Rangbhang VDC to the south-east of the district has been closed for a week after the students there started showing unusual behaviour like sudden trembling, crying, shouting and murmuring.



School Principal Hemraj Aryal said that these symptoms have been seen in nearly two dozens students of Grade 6 to 9 of the 9-14 years age group. [break]



"In the beginning these symptoms were seen only in a few students and later on others also started showing these signs. We then decided to close school for a week and consult the faith healers and village shamans," he added.



The affected students were taken to local health posts and hospitals, but the medics there said that no symptoms of any disease could be identified among them, he said, adding that these symptoms occurred when the students were at school but not when outside.
