Speaking to Republica, party Spokesperson Govinda Sah said, “Our party Chairperson Giri is ending her fast-unto-death protest today [Tuesday].” [break]
Giri was holding the strike from the last 22 days demanding the allocation of 121 constituencies for 20 Terai districts in the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
Sah further said that the report endorsed by Constituency Delineation Commission (CDC) on Monday was prejudiced.
Coming down heavily on CDC Report, Sah said, “We will mark September 2 as ‘black day’ every year.” He further accused both the Election Commission and CDC of being biased to Madhesi cause. “We were demanding representation on the basis of population,” said Sah, maintaining that the demands pressed by their party to allocate 121 seats in Terai out of 240 seats, were not illogical.
“Madhesh should get 121 seats as it makes more than half of the national population,” said Sah.
When asked about the achievements of hunger strike, he was quick to respond that, “No matter whether our demands addressed or not but one thing is clear that our demands were ignored out of ill intension.” Sah further charged other Madhes based parties of working against the cause of Madhes.
Giri was staging hunger strike since August 13 in the capital demanding a review of the number of election constituencies for the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
