CHITWAN, Feb 19: Regular classes at Kalika Vidyapeeth, a Sanskrit-language school, in Gaindakot of Nawalparasi have stopped due to financial constraints.

Kalika Vidyapeeth, which was established by local people seven years ago with donations collected through a mahayagya has virtually closed down after the school administration failed to provide salaries to teachers and monthly allowances to the students. [break]

The government has been providing monthly incentives to the students of Sanskrit schools.

Although the government last year accorded Kalika Vidyapeeth the status of a constituent college of Nepal Sanskrit University, the university has not provided any grants to the school. Therefore, the school has failed to provide salaries to teachers and monthly allowances to students for the past seven months.

"We have already run out of funds. The university has yet not provided any grants," said a teacher, Gopi Nath Kandel. A total of 13 teachers, including three permanent, work at the school. Teachers and students have jointly been staging protest for the last couple of weeks.
