KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Electricity generation at the Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Project has resumed after the completion of maintenance work. The 73-megawatt project had been shut down since the second week of December for technical repairs.
Power generation restarted after technical issues observed at the powerhouse and some equipment were resolved. Likewise, routine annual maintenance was also carried out simultaneously while addressing the technical problems. This is expected to make the project’s future operations safer and more reliable.
Middle Tamor to start test production from December 30
During the maintenance period, turbines, generators, control systems, and other electricity transmission-related equipment were inspected and repaired.
The project, which began commercial operation around two years ago, supplies electricity to the national grid through the Basantapur (Dhungesanghu) substation. Power generated from the project is expected to support the Nepal Electricity Authority in supply management.
Sanima Middle Tamor is the largest-capacity hydropower project currently in operation in the district.
